Ok, Tigerdan had a meltdown over the outer limit, Mine is this,(as the crow flies!) =
Glasgow Airport, Paisley, United Kingdom to Southampton Airport, Southampton, United Kingdom = 584.262 km
Glasgow Airport, Paisley, United Kingdom to Gatwick Airport, Horley, United Kingdom = 595.510 km
Look at the map of the UK to see the problem!!!!

Can you explain the problem. I can't see it. Horley is further east thus accounting for more miles. It may be further north but....

Hi, sorry to take so long replying, trying to get my head around the calculated on a map issues from practical experiences! Ok, pic 1 shows the ‘as the crow flies’ ( tjpeiffer.com/crowflies.html ) distances between Glasgow Airport Paisley to Gatwick Airport Horley 370 miles, Bournemouth Airport 368 miles and Southampton Airport 363 miles. Pics 2, 3 and 4 show the radius of all 3 distances (from- www.freemaptools.com/radius-around-point.htm ). Pic 5 shows the airports positions on google earth. (pics 4,5 and 6 are in the next post) Google Earth ‘rounds off’ (pic 6) the images from freemaptools and ‘as the crow flies’ lays them out flat! Now I know there are only small differences between these airports but to me using my 50 odd years of travelling around the Southcoast area of England the fact that Gatwick is ‘supposedly’ further away from Glasgow than either Southampton or Bournemouth is completely wrong! Are there any landmasses on the official map of the Earth that can be recognized as that exact shape when looking down from the height of a commercial airplane? Who is telling us what the shape of the United Kingdom is for example? Is there any irrefutable proof that any vital and heavily populated area is the shape and size we are told it is? We already know NASA has changed the size of the USA in their official photos of Earth from space. Zooming in on specific areas of Antarctica using Google Earth makes me feel at times that I'm looking at some kind of cartoon. A really bad cartoon at that.
